West Coast Memorial Park

Our award winning garden - a place of peace and tranquillity. First prize winner of the National Home Beautiful "Garden of the year" contest is part of the property of West Coast Memorial Park.

We appreciate that gardens - like life itself - are dynamic, never static, so we look forward to the changing seasons in the gardening year.

The garden comprises many different sections - an orchard, vegetable garden, feature beds of shrubs and perennials, herbaceous borders, a rose garden featuring heritage roses, a topiary garden, a woodland section where native mallee trees predominate, and a "conservation" area where sheoak trees blend into the surrounding rural pastures.

A special feature is a "1908 garden" created in memory of Jennifer's late father, Mr. Ivor Winch, where extensive research has ensured only those plants known in the year 1908 (the year of his birth) have been used.

The garden - built and maintained on organic principles - uses water supplied by two bores on the property. Mulching to conserve water (and eventually add humus to the soil content) is always uppermost.

Like many country people, an intensely strong affinity is maintained with the land, and the cycle of life. Nurturing plants through their growth, enjoying their beauty, and returning them to the garden eventually (as compost) creates an essential bond with nature, and the world around us.
